Tuatapere Domain

Right in the middle of Tuatapere lies the Tuatapere Domain, an ancient forest of podocarp and beech trees along the Waiua River. A loop track will take you to a thousand-year-old totora tree eight feet in diameter. Along the way you will see tree ferns and fuchsias as well as other towering podocarps like matai and kahikatea. The track takes about a half hour to walk. The well maintained gravel track can be walked by most people, regardless of age and fitness level.

"I was awestruck by these gigantic trees so close to the centre of town. You could easily drive through and not know what you're missing. It's definitely worth a stop in Tuatapere to see this forest."

Brett, Milaca, Minnesota, USA
