Wauia Valley's own~ Tuatapere Maternity. Nestled in a beautiful valley is one of Southland's great contributors to improving maternal and child health in rural New Zealand. Caring midwives and dedicated staff provide care to women for pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal.
Woman can deliver and complete their postpartum stay at the centre, or if you deliver at Southland District Hospital, you are also welcome to postnatal with us. You will be given breastfeeding and mother care support and home0cooked meals. Tuatapere midwives also offer homebirth and waterbirth options.

Tuatapere Maternity has two midwives on staff who will help educate and guide pregnant women through all stages of pregnancy, childbirth and post-partum journey.
During pregnancy, the centre offers pregnancy tests, all necessary prenatal visits, advice and counseling, routine lab work, and referrals for ultrasounds and other procedures when necessary.
When it's time to give birth, our midwives will provide support, guidance and companionship in our recently remodeled birthing room.
After delivery, mother and baby can stay for up to five days with round-the-clock nursing care and regular visits from midwives for help with breastfeeding. Mothers will rest, recover and bond with their babies in this peaceful rural setting.
After discharge, midwives will continue to provide care on at least five visits to the clinic.
