Directions: From Tuatapere, take Highway 99 (Southern Scenic Route) to Clifden. Turn left on the road to Lake Hauroko, following the sign to the Dean Forest Big Totoras Scenic Reserve. After crossing the Waiau River, turn right, again following the sign. Take that road until you come to the sign for the walking track. The road ends at the Big Totora reserve.

A 30-minute walk leads through podocarp forests, including ancient totoras. The gravel and boardwalk track is well maintained and accessible to people of all levels of fitness.
