Directions: Okaka is a back country lodge accessible only by foot or helicopter. Normally accessed at the end of the first day's walk on the Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track, helicopter access is also available by arrangement.

Okaka is a back country lodge with spacious communal dining areas. Sleeps 40 people with a range of bunkrooms, premium rooms.
Services include gas heating and cooking, solar lighting and flush toilets. Cooking & kitchen equipment and pillows are provided.
A lodge managers is stationed at Okaka during the summer months. Free hot porridge is provided for breakfast. During winter the lodges are unserviced. Lighting still works but there is no gas, cooking or kitchen equipment.

Okaka Lodge is located just below the summit ridge of the Hump Ridge at 890m and commands extensive views eastward across Te Waewae Bay the Waiau Valley and the Takitimus. This provides the opportunity to experience
spectacular sunrises which are a feature of the location.

A fully boardwalked loop track is situated overlooking the hut site and provides spectacular 360 views over the southern Fiordland lakes and mountains, takes in Solander and Stewart Islands and Te Waewae Bay. Closer to hand are spectacular rocky tors reflected in alpine tarns.

Situated just on the bush line the lodge also provides a base for botanical exploration of the Hump. As well as mountain daisies, alpine buttercups, and hebes there is a wealth of orchids to be seen in flower. A particular feature of the vegetation is the very distinctive pineapple scrub (Dracophyllum menziesii) with its beautiful red foliage.

Accommodation at the Okaka lodge is $45 dollars per person per night during the summer season, reduced to $22.50 in winter.
Children 14 and under are half price.
Limited accommodation is available in premium rooms, either twin or double with linen, for $100 per room.
